If there is one treatment I would have every patient (over 30) who walks into my clinic undergo, it is Morpheus8. (Some younger patients, especially if they have scarring, would also benefit). It has totally changed the way I practice this year.
This is a patented device that uses 24 micro-pins to deliver radio-frequency energy deep under the skin surface (2-4mm range). This means that no energy is wasted and the surface is just a little pink after treatment. However, underneath, a powerful cascade of new collagen and elastin formation is triggered resulting in potent skin tightening and even subtle volume restoration to sunken areas such as under the eyes. Deeper treatments can also allow fat contraction in areas such as the arms or under the chin. Morpheus8 is automated so the speed means it is quite tolerable with some local anaesthetic cream.
I like to couple this with the shallow (0.6mm) 60pin Fractora treatment (also from InMode). This works on the superficial layers addressing open pores, pigmentation, fine lines and tiny red capillaries. It’s like laser skin resurfacing without the downtime. This tends to show healthier and more radiant skin within a few weeks, whilst results from the Morpheus8 peak at 6-12months. In two 30 minute sessions we can achieve breath-taking results.
A new shallow pin head will allow the option of Morpheus8 being applied from 0.5 to 4mm. Morpheus8 for me is not so much the “new kid on the block” but more the “new big daddy on the block”. Furthermore, combining this with other modalities such as biostimulating dermal fillers eg Radiesse (Calcium hydroxyapatite) appears to have a synergistic benefit and superior outcome.
I tend to perform the RF treatments first and find that the volume of dermal fillers required after is less than if the latter is done alone. This is because the RF gives some volume back due to increased thickness of the skin, but also because the effect of fillers is better when administered under healthier skin.
